Things to Know Before You Go

The inaugural Asheville Mini Maker Faire is coming up fast (this Saturday from 1 to 5!), and there are a few things we would like you to know:

Parking

As you enter campus on University Heights and come up the hill, you will see parking lot P28 on your right which is the best place to park. If this is full, then P27 is your next best option, but there are plenty of parking areas open on the day of the Faire (see a map of the Asheville Mini Maker Faire here).

Check-in

Please come to the Registration/check-in desk when you arrive to get a wristband.  This allows us to get a better final count of how many people attended the Faire, which helps us to plan for an even better event next year as well as let our sponsors know the impact that their donations are having in the community.  Thanks!

Exhibits

There will be exhibits in parking lot P25 as well as outside on the main quad and in a couple of buildings on the main quad.  In the event of rain, most exhibits will be moved to the Student Recreation Center.

In addition, there will be a free shuttle running from 3:30 to 7:30 to take people down to the RAMP studios for:

  • tours of the UNC Asheville STEAM Studio on the half hour starting at 4:00 with the last tour at 5:30;
  • a visual sound table exhibit across from the STEAM studio from 4:00 to 6:00, built by the UNC Asheville Mechatronics Senior Design Group;
  • local ginger beer maker Ginger’s Revenge will be open after 2:00; and
  • local chocolate maker French Broad Chocolates will be open until 5:30 with their regular tours available (extra charge – more info here). At 6:00, they will reopen for a special After the Faire Tours & Tasting (extra charge – more info here).

The shuttle will depart from and return next to lot P25 as marked on the map.  Remember, the shuttle ends at 7:30, so the last shuttle will leave the RAMP studios around 7:15!  But, there is also plenty of parking down there if you decide to drive yourself so you can stay later.

With almost 50 exhibitors at the Faire, be sure to allow enough time to see it all!

Food and Drinks

We will not have food and drinks available at the Asheville Mini Maker Faire this year, and options on campus are somewhat limited, so you may want to eat lunch before coming down. There will be a food truck outside Ginger’s Revenge at the RAMP studios.

We hope you’re as excited about the inaugural Asheville Mini Maker Faire as we are, and we look forward to seeing you Saturday!
